Alai is a great teacher as well as an excellent artist, and her enthusiasm is totally infectious. Her presentation was extremely slick with multiple camera angles and video collages, making the experience perhaps even better than it would have been in a classroom (especially if you were sitting a long way back). I have no idea how she was able to multitask so well, changing camera angles while painting and teaching all at the same time.
The workshop started with some colour theory and then a warmup mini-painting. The main painting was Halloween-themed and included multiple light sources and types of objects (glass, ceramic, fabric, flame etc), so quite challenging but a lot of fun. I have included my painting here.
Alai stresses the importance of not being too perfectionistic, which is a useful reminder for me. She paints quickly and has her eye on the over-all piece, rather than getting stuck on any particular detail. She likes to keep painting in a state of flow, rather like the paint itself.
The video recordings were also available afterwards, which allowed me to review a few things later at my leisure. Highly recommended - I will be looking forward to the next workshops she puts on!

This class was so fun and worth it! I learned so much about oil painting (which I've never done), color theory, the tools needed to approach an exciting color palette, and created a painting my husband wants to hang in our home at the end! Alai is so sweet and has a great set up for giving the viewers the perspectives needed to see color mixing, painting and the reference all at once. I will absolutely take another course with Alai.

The prints are amazing. The colours sing and they are printed on gorgeous paper. And Alai included some wee surprises in the package. Just perfect thanks xx
The print is not packaged well or safely. The card board is almost as thin as the print and bent, causing my print to bend. Customs sliced the print because it is taped so close to the edge of the card board. Extremely disappointed as I really love your art. Will not be ordering again.
Hi Makayla! And whoever reads this for the future:) little trick for most companies: as I state in my policies and you can read at check out, I ship everything signature required. That means someone hands the package to an adult instead of dropping it off at the front door. If anything gets damaged in customs or shipping, just sign 'it is damaged' upon receiving, and with that, I can claim the insurance that I apply and pay for in every shipping. If you don't state that the package is not right, the company can say it was customer's fault. This is valid for most companies, not just my contract with FedEx. Little tricks 💪
And of course, even if you don't know and do this, just talk to me and I happily ship you a new print :) I wish there were no issues, but in every international order we have always risk of people mistreating the package. This is the first time someone tells me it was poorly packaged, and I'll keep it in mind of course, as I'm always trying to improve my service. But still, even if I use the safest materials, things can happen, im afraid. I'm so sorry you had it sliced at customs and I'd gladly send you a new one if you still want that. Alai is a beautiful creative soul that continually showed how much she cares about thosw who come to learn with her duering the entire workshop.
I had a wondeful time and learned so much. If you wanted to go but couldn't, grab her course asap - it is far more indepth and incredible than a two day workshop. Alai is an amzimg teacher.
I discovered Alai at an art fair in London in July 2024. I feel in love with her artwork and creative style - vibrant, modern, and welcoming - and it seemed to reflect Alai herself, who came across as a bubbly and joyous person, handing out free stickers.
One piece I was particularly drawn to was 'Fridge Colors (Expanding Fridge Universe)' - it's an inviting and warm piece that truly reminds you of those times when you are hungry for a snack and open up the fridge to find it fully stocked and ready to satisfy your cravings. When I saw that the piece was available for purchase as a limited edition print in early 2025, I was very happy and had no second thoughts about purchasing.
The print arrived quickly through international shipping and was perfectly packaged with protective cardboard. There was even a little note from Alai herself with a little surprise gift. The print is actually a birthday present for my mum, who was equally enamoured with Alai's work at the art fair, so I cannot wait to see her reaction to the present. I know she will love it just as much as I do.

I love and collect drawings in which glasses are present. Alai’s glass drawing appears to be simple, but it has a genius touch.
