I absolutely loved working on this portrait because Morgan has such a naturally noble, majestic presence. The collector reached out, looking for a special tribute piece, and provided a wonderful selection of references. I immediately saw the vision in a low-angle shot that shows Morgan looking slightly down toward the viewer, capturing that iconic, wonderfully "superior" cat look! At the collector's request, I removed his collar for the final painting, keeping the focus entirely on his expressive face and fluffy chest.

To frame his striking tuxedo markings, I chose a solid, vibrant orchid-purple background. When painting black-and-white coats, the secret is treating the fur like a prism; instead of flat blacks and whites, I built his dark patches using deep teals and rich indigo blues, while lacing his white ruff with soft pinks, light yellows, and mint greens. I applied the professional oil paint thickly with visible, energetic impasto brushstrokes, packing his wide, multi-colored amber eyes with bright, glassy reflections.
