Shio at the Wedding: Custom Large-Scale Corgi Oil Painting

This large-scale 40x50 cm original oil painting balances elegant family portraiture with high-contrast color blocking, capturing a beloved Corgi at a milestone celebration.

An Intimate, Character-Driven Composition

This commission was an absolute joy to co-create with the collector. While most families request a standard headshot crop, we decided to paint a highly unique composition from their wedding day. The layout positions their Corgi, Shio, right at the center of the frame, surrounded by the formal attire of his parents, juxtaposing the sleek leather of the groom's dress shoes with the intricate, flowing lace of the bride's gown. During the sketching phase, the collector noted that it was much more in character for Shio to be glancing slightly upward at his humans rather than staring straight at the camera. I adjusted his gaze accordingly, ensuring his alert, loving expression feels authentic to life.

To celebrate the sunny, light-filled space where the painting now hangs, I pushed the boundaries of my signature palette. I treated the bride's white gown like a prism, weaving iridescent pastels, soft lavenders, and cool mint greens into the folds while adding rich orange, peach, and coral tones to Shio's golden coat. Shio wears a gorgeous garland of white wedding roses that acts as a beautiful focal point. I applied the professional-grade oil paint with thick, sculptural impasto brushstrokes, building a rich texture across the surface. Finished with a specialized UV-protective varnish, this heirloom is highly lightfast and built to safely handle direct natural light for generations to come.
