In "Cucumber Slices," I wanted to see how far I could push the contrast between a deep emerald green and a vibrant pink underpainting. I used this pink base as a secret foundation, letting it peek through the thick, sculptural brushwork to make the greens and whites of the cucumber appear to glow.

I built up the forms using a viscous application of paint, creating a physical texture that stands out against the deep purple and violet background. This is a one-of-a-kind original physical artwork, not a reproduction. I created it on a rigid wood panel that I hand-primed in my studio to ensure the oil pigments stay rich and the surface remains durable for the long term.
