Co-Creating a Dreamlike Memory

This painting was a beautiful, collaborative journey with the collector. The concept was born from a vacation memory at Rosemary Beach, Florida, where two young sisters were chasing their father through an open green field. Unlike conventional portraits that focus solely on making the figures as large as possible, we decided to give the kids plenty of breathing room within the frame. By surrounding them with an expansive green lawn, the composition captures the true scale of a vast childhood adventure, turning a standard family portrait into an experience and a memory.

During the digital mockup process, we refined the placement and sizes to maintain the natural age dynamic between four-year-old Dylan and two-year-old Drew, showing Drew happily trailing just a little bit behind her sister. We also decided to remove all background figures, blurring out the far-off architecture to create an out-of-focus, surreal atmosphere. I used heavy impasto oil strokes to create a dynamic "motion blur" in the bright green grass, adding deep, complementary shadows that pull the vivid blue floral dress and rainbow tulle gown forward. It is a luminous, high-energy legacy piece designed to take center stage on a living room wall.
