This piece is pure energy: a vibrant, high-contrast exploration of effort and reward, captured in thick, buttery oil.
Turning a Vision into a "Squeeze"
When Gaby reached out with the concept "the juice is worth the squeeze," I was immediately hooked. We spent time finding the perfect hand conformation, balancing the elegance of long, deep red nails with the raw power of a grip that actually deforms the fruit. I wanted the viewer to feel the tension, so I focused on creating luminous highlights on the lemon and adding those specific, glistening drips of juice trailing down the forearm. It’s these tiny, hand-painted details that turn a simple idea into a striking original artwork.
Working on an 8x8 wood panel, I moved beyond the expected yellows to find the chromatic depth hidden in the shadows. Using my signature thick impasto technique, I gave the lemon a tactile, three-dimensional presence you can almost feel. This custom oil painting was a special personalized gift for a best friend starting their clinical rotations, and it’s a perfect reminder that the most rewarding things in life require a little bit of pressure. The final result is a spectrum-rich celebration of color and perseverance.
Why this commission is a radiant gem
High-Energy Narrative: A visual representation of a powerful mantra, making it a truly meaningful original art gift.
Tactile Realism: The buttery texture of the paint captures the juice's wetness and the lemon's waxy skin perfectly.
Bold Color Contrast: I paired the bright yellows with a deep, chromatic background to make the hand and fruit "pop" off the panel.
Bespoke Detail: Custom-tailored elements like the specific red nail color and the placement of the juice drips.
