I absolutely adored the concept behind this commission. The collector reached out looking for a creative holiday gift, and instead of a traditional headshot, we decided to capture her dog’s paw from underneath. To find the right angle, we looked through several family-taken references to highlight that iconic, fluffy fur that grows right between the toe beans. Focusing on just the paw allowed me to create a highly detailed, natural-scale portrait that feels incredibly intimate and full of personality.

I chose a solid, vibrant teal background as a contemporary frame that makes the soft pink skin pads and cream fur completely vibrate with color. My signature style builds up the surface using thick impasto layers and visible brushstrokes, giving the tufts of fur a lovely tactile volume. Instead of sticking to flat whites and browns, I layered cool lavenders and light pinks into the highlights and shadows to give the paw structural weight. Finished with a protective varnish, this archival piece serves as a playful and chic conversation piece for any wall.
