A Personal Sanctuary Recreated

This commission was an incredibly meaningful collaboration with the collector. She wanted to remember her late cat in her absolute favorite spot, lounging peacefully by a bright window. However, since it can be tough to capture the perfect expression and setting in a single photograph, we decided to combine multiple family images. We used a favorite candid shot as the base for the window pose and setting. We layered in separate, clearly lit close-ups to reconstruct her beautiful markings, alert face, and upper body with perfect accuracy.

During the design phase, the collector suggested curling her tail slightly across the window sill to create a more balanced, elegant composition. To emphasize the dramatic back-lighting of the window, I treated the contour of her coat like a prism, allowing a vibrant halo of neon pinks, soft corals, and light mint greens to glow along the edges of her fur. I paired the rich tortoiseshell and cream patches of her coat with a bold, color-blocked background of bright jade green and soft lavenders. Applied with thick impasto brushstrokes, this painting turns a quiet childhood memory into a lifelong fine art treasure.
