Odin & Dexter: Custom Double Pet Portrait Commission

A Sunny, Floral Multiverse for Two Best Friends

This hand-painted pet portrait was a beautiful puzzle to solve. Nora wanted to commemorate her chocolate doodle, Odin, alongside his smaller golden buddy, Dexter. Since Odin is no longer with us, we worked closely through several mockups to find a composition that felt natural and full of life. We decided on a vibrant, sunny background filled with high-contrast greens and floral elements, creating a luminous space where these two could "play" together once more. Capturing the specific chromatic depth of Odin’s dark chocolate curls next to Dexter’s light, sandy fur was a masterclass in light and shadow.

One of my favorite parts was our back-and-forth about Dexter’s "flying foot." We wanted to capture that energetic, jumping-into-the-frame feeling that perfectly describes his personality. By applying professional oil paint with a buttery texture and heavy spectral highlights, I was able to give the pups a three-dimensional presence on the wood panel. Hearing that Nora cried when she unwrapped it is the highest honor I can receive as an artist. This custom oil painting isn't just a portrait; it's a striking, technicolor tribute to a bond that lasts forever.
