I absolutely loved painting this piece because it moves away from the traditional, stiff pet portrait. When looking through references for Fredward, this specific sideways, upside-down angle immediately caught my eye. It perfectly captures a quirky, adventurous personality. My main focus was on his massive, wide-eyed expression, ensuring that the curious look in his eyes became the emotional centerpiece of the canvas.

To make the details pop, I paired Fredward's distinct markings with a soft, texturized pink and lavender background. I applied the professional oil paint heavily, using a thick impasto style, giving the fur and the background a beautiful tactile quality. I tucked cool teals and deep violets into the shadows of his fur to give the face structure and volume, while using bright highlights to catch the light in his eyes. I finished the painting in my studio with a clean protective varnish, turning a playful candid photo into a lasting piece of art.
